Anyone who follows my blog will have noticed that the blog posts have been rather thin on the ground lately (ok, non-existent), I’ve been so busy with other things as I mentioned in my Exciting Times blog post. Sewing time has been limited (and will continue to be so for a week or so yet, grrrrr) but its still there in the background.
I finished the February Skill Builder blocks. Phew! The plan is still to FMQ them at a later date.
The light wasn’t great (we’ve been having rubbish grey gloomy weather again!) when I took these photos, The Mood looks very ‘blue’ rather than ‘blue/green’, can you believe that the top right block is Kona Teal??
I can now report that I am a starch convert, “My house will never be without starch again”.
In the name of research I’ve been having a play with some 100% Linen which was fun and very slippery which resulted in a slightly wonky block.
I’m on the hunt for a supplier of 100% linen in various colours, if anyone has a secret supplier (UK preferably) they can share, please please do. Thanks.
|Goodness, it’s slippery stuff!!|
Thank goodness for starch! I’ve been looking at testing some Geometric designs to incorporate into a project, which is perfectly timed for this….
… Le Challenge. Have you heard about Le Challenge? The brain child of these two lovely ladies Nat and Lucy, a monthly craft – any craft – challenge set to a theme. Each month there will be a new theme, its a fun play along with giveaway from their sponsors, this month its ‘Geometric’ with a April 15th deadline. All I have to do now is get my project finished in time to enter and grab their blog button.
I’ve had a bit of ‘squishy mail’* through the letterbox over the past couple of weeks.
This little lot is for a baby quilt commission. The baby (sex unknown) is due at the end of April, so I hope to get started on this at the weekend. The fabric is courtesy of Annie hunting for remnant FQ’s of Fox Hollow. Thank you, Annie.

Now the exciting bit…….”I won a giveaway!!!!” Look at this loveliness.
Kate at M is for Make had this giveaway on her blog a couple of weeks ago. If you won, what would you use it for? Well I said “I’d use it for the swaps I’ve signed up for for this years FQ Retreat. Thanks x” So, if you’re going to FQR this year and you’ve signed up for the Sample Swap or the Name Tag Swap you could well find your swap has some of this in it.
Which leads me onto the Fat Quarter Retreat, are you going? Excitement seems to be building, there is FQR buzz on Flickr and blogs (another button I need to add to my blog). As a Retreat 1st timer and being new to this quilting malarky I’m excited and nervous, I’ll not be a single as I’m sharing a room with Sonia and travelling down with Ange and Kerry all blog friends who I won’t have met in person until Friday 19th July – eek. I’m going armed with my camera, sewing machine, swaps, hopefully a long list of classes, a sense of humour, chocolate and maybe a bottle of wine stashed in my luggage.
I’ve not been totally out of the loop, I’m managing to keep fairly up to date with reading blogposts and commenting, but admittidly I’ve missed a fair few – sorry!
I have taken to Instagram though, perfect for micro blogging its great and I can post whilst making a cup of tea. If you want to follow my random (believe me when I say random) thoughts, you can follow me on Instagram at duckeggthreads
Which brings me right up to today.
And, because I’m obviously not busy enough, today I bought the new Laurel pattern from Colette Patterns. Not only is it a lovely simple shift dress, but there is a major competition going on too, entries by the end of April – do I? don’t I? Ok, I probably will enter. Check out the Coletterie for details.
Phew! I think that is my update complete
*(the phrase squishy mail is stolen from the lovely Ange)
