Time to grab yourself a cuppa!
Mine is a fairly typical sewers story. I grew up in a house where the sewing machine was always in use and you knew to watch out for rogue pins! My mum was a seamstress, the rhythmic sound of her Singer treadle machine was ever present, according to mum it was “faster than the modern electric machines”! Dressmaking or ‘sewing’ was my favourite subject at school, I had a fantastic inspirational teacher, who I learnt so much from. I continued to make some of my own clothes until my mid 20s, it was around this time I had a go at my first patchwork or English Paper Piecing as I now know it.
Fast forward a good few years which included working in Visual Merchandising and Marketing, getting married and becoming a full time mum. It was only when William started school that I got the urge to start sewing again, at first it was mainly children’s pyjamas, bags etc. until I discovered the online quilting community. I am definitely what you would class as a slow quilter but I absolutely love it. There are so many new skills I want to learn and I’ve discovered I have my own style, and that it’s OK not to like the latest ‘must do’ quilt, it’s not for everyone. I also would love to get back into dressmaking and re-visit the skills I mastered at school.
Over the years I’ve developed a love for pattern and colour, geometric design, the work of Architect Frank Lloyd Wright and mid-century design. Orla Kiely’s particular use of colour and repetitive pattern really appeals to me, but even with the above influences, I always come back to admiring the beautiful prints of Liberty Art Fabrics with their florals and use of lots of vivid colours, it goes to show you can be inspired by more than one style of design.
Sewing for pleasure has now evolved into what seems to be a natural progression, by merging a love of design and fabric to open an online fabric shop. The quality of Liberty Tana Lawn is exceptional, it is luxurious to handle, it’s fine and supple whilst being hardwearing. It is a fabric I come back to time and time again.
Based in West Yorkshire, Duck Egg Threads is a specialist online fabric shop selling Liberty Tana Lawn.
Tailored to Quilters and Crafters, who often do not need to buy larger pieces of a premium fabric when only a little is needed, our Liberty Tana Lawn will mainly sold in the very useable size of fat eighths (33cm x 50cm). All fabric sold at Duck Egg Threads is ‘first’ quality, you will not find any ‘seconds’, ‘slight seconds’ or ‘off prints’, you are paying for a premium product and that is exactly what you will receive – beautiful fabric with first class service.
For the launch, I have collated an eclectic introductory range of Classic well loved prints and new Spring/Summer 2014 season designs, which I hope you like. Please feel free to contact me if you have any requests for a print I am not currently stocking – I’d happily source it for you and custom orders are welcome.
Equally, if there is anything I can do to to improve service your feedback is welcome, please email me, I would love to hear your thoughts.
